Spark Starter Classes

Is your child ready to explore the world of the arts?  Our Spark Starter classes are 10 week sessions that give them a great introduction into a genre of the arts to help them find their spark.  Enroll in these classes for the entire 10 weeks or come to one class to try things out.

Once they have found something they are passionate about and are ready for the next step of building that spark into a flame, it's time to move into our Flame Builder Courses.

Check out classes by genre by clicking on one of these!

Flame Builder Courses

Our Flame Builder Courses are designed to teach your child what is needed to set a goal and reach that goal.  Each course is leveled, and kids graduate from one level to the next by learning skills, technique, and history of their chosen genre. But the secret sauce in these courses is the character development side where students learn success strategies and how to become leaders.  These courses are a commitment and enrollment are only open twice a year.  An integral part of the Flame Builder program is also the opportunity to travel and perform or showcase their sparks in and around the town, participate in outside workshops, and even travel with us to New York once every other year! Anyone interested in being part of this program must first attend our introductory Intensive where they will be immersed in how the program will work, what they will be committing to accomplish, and who they will have on their side during this journey (A bit of work mixed with a ton of fun is guaranteed!). The last day of the intensive will be an assessment to see in which level of their genre they are ready to start.

VISUAL ARTS

Dance

Ballet

Levels 1-6

Ages 5-11 and 12-18

Students will learn ballet principles with elements of classical French, Italian, and Russian schools of ballet. The goal of our curriculum is to train students to use their bodies correctly by educating them on anatomy, kinetics, coordination, and alignment. Artistically, our curriculum strives to provide for students both a rich knowledge of classical ballet technique and the ability to adapt to all styles of dance. Mentally and emotionally, our curriculum teaches students the principles of success and leadership with resources like our Dance Journal and guided conversations. Each level takes about 1 year to complete and students are assessed twice a year during the intensives.

Pointe

Levels 1- 4

Ages 12-18 (with director approval)

Pointe is an addition to our ballet curriculum and students are invited to participate in a semester of pre-pointe only after demonstrating they are ready for this level. Once they pass the pre-pointe assessment, additional pointe only classes are added to their ballet class to train them in safety and strength building to execute ballet in their shoes.  Once they are comfortable in the pointe shoes, they will use them in conjunction with their ballet classes.

Jazz and Tap

Levels 1- 6

Ages 5-11 and 12-18

We choose to combine jazz and tap into one class as they tend to feed and help each other.  Each level teaches students a variety of styles and movements for both and relates back to American History and the origins.  In jazz, our curriculum teaches the sharp, clean lines and movements in styles like pop, funk, lyrical, contemporary, and broadway.  Each level goes more in depth into creators and what they bring to the genre.  In tap, students will learn rhythm, beats, musicality, and more while learning about past tappers and what they brought to the genre.  This is combined with our success and leadership curriculum aspects to make your dancer into a well rounded, amazing human being.

Contemporary Jazz

Levels 1- 4

Ages 12-18 (with director approval)

Contemporary jazz is an optional addition to the jazz and tap program that gives dancers the opportunity to earn more about the most popular form of jazz dance.  This course is designed to intertwine expression into their movements and put purpose behind their dance.  Because it can bring out emotional conversations and expressions, this course is only offered by invitation to dancers who have demonstrated their maturity and readiness to create such works.
